Step-by-Step Instructions on how to Cite a Source and Reference (APA Style).
1. Find a source (Internet or in print). The picture is of a source I found on Women's rights.
2. Write the fact or information from the source you want to use. Do this EVEN if you do not use the EXACT WORDS from the source.
I am going to use the fact that 37% of single mothers live in poverty according to a 2016 OXFAM report.
3. Write the source in the proper citation format:
Name of author. (Date). Title of webpage. Name of newspaper or internet site. Retrieved from: URL
So I would write at the end of the essay in alphabetical order:
References
OXFAM. (2016). What does it mean to be a Feminist in 2016. OXFAM. Retrieved from: http://womensrights.oxfam.ca/
4. In the essay, I would write something like this: "While some might believe feminism is an out-dated movement, the fact that 37% of single mothers live in poverty in Canada is a significant problem (especially considering women are more often single parents than men) (OXFAM, 2016; Terry, 2010).
Terry, 2010 is for the claim that women are more often single parents than men. OXFAM is cited to support the claim that 37% of women live in poverty in Canada (the rate for single fathers by the same study is 22%).
